A SERVICE YOU COME TO VALUE AND WHICH BECOMES INVALUABLE TO YOUR PRACTICE

Disparity between the treatment of physical and mental health has long been an issue in social care provision. The impact of poor mental health on individuals, families, communities and the state is of concern to Connect2Counselling. According to recent research carried out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) 88% of individuals polled want the NHS to provide therapy on a parity of esteem basis with physical health. 51% of individuals surveyed said they would first approach their GP or other health professional to provide support, 41% would first approach a friend or family member and 2% said they would approach a counsellor. These figures show the access to mental health therapeutic support is primarily via GP practices.

IMPORTANT AREAS TO CONSIDER FOR YOUR PATIENTS ARE:

Access – Providing quick and easy access to psychological therapies.

This means therapeutic provision available in locations familiar to the client and within an optimum time frame. This reduces reliance on medication and GP consultation time thus reducing NHS costs. Individuals will increase their inner resources by building skills and developing the capacity to respond to life situations/disruptions with more resilience. In the UK there are an estimated 6 million people with depression/anxiety related mental illness. The percentage per capita in NI is significantly greater. In NI 316m was spent in 2013 on anti-depressants and anxiety reducing medication.

Waiting Times – Reducing long waits for psychological therapies.

Waiting for mental health treatment, as with physical treatment, can lead to deterioration in an individual’s condition. The delays in treatment provision can turn straightforward issue into a something more complex. Social and occupational function can deteriorate and other stressors increase.
Choice – The patient’s freedom to choose.

SPECIALISED FAMILY THERAPY SERVICES

Connect2Counselling recognises the significant contribution of parents in the wellbeing of children. Every parent needs to maintain their own self-care in order to ensure their children’s needs are met.

Self-care is even more relevant for parents with children who have complex and challenging needs.

We have a specific interest in providing therapeutic services to parents of children with additional needs e.g. adoptive parents and foster carers and parents who have children with challenging behavioural, social, educational, physical and psychological needs.

Connect2Counselling provides specialised, tailored therapeutic support. As finance may be limited for such parents we will provide an affordable service based on individual circumstances.

We are also happy to take private referrals from GP practices and would be glad to discuss the requirements, opportunities, and possible service models for providing services.
